Captain James Jackov woke up feeling oddly refreshed on Saturday morning. Last week had been hell. He had to fire two of his best detectives for theft. Apparently on their last drug bust they forgot about the $500,000 they found in the walls of the guy's house. He had just finished the paperwork last night.
Cap, as everyone called him now, got up and began to get ready to head in to the station. Cap, it was funny how he had gotten that nickname. First of all, he hated his last name. And God knows how much people had loved to use it from his years in middle school all the way through the academy. Even now people that didn't know him called him "Captain Jackoff." For a while he had asked people to call him Captain Jack. And then Johnny Depp had his blockbuster pirate movie come out and that was the end of that.
A few years ago he had been reading Stephen King's Firestarter and liked the character they called Cap. So he had started to ask people to just call him Cap. And then he finished the book. But it was too late, the name had stuck and he has been Cap ever since.
He finished getting ready, and looked at himself in the full size mirror. He was tall, not thin but not overweight either. His hair was turning gray, but he was thankful that it was still all there. His black suit fit perfectly, the custom tailoring was worth every penny. He was nearing fifty, but aside from his hair, he looked like he was still in his thirties. The only marks on his face were not wrinkles, but two scars. One on his chin from a bicycle accident in his early childhood. The other, was from twenty years ago.
He had been called to the scene of a hostage situation. A man had walked into a bank with a .357 Magnum and no exit strategy. He had taken a bag to the teller and ordered her to fill it. She pressed the silent alarm and Cap was there within minutes. So there they were, kneeling behind their open car doors with guns aimed at the bank. It was a stand off. So it was decided that Cap, still being a tactical officer, and two others would go in through the vents and try to flush him out.
So, to make a long story short, Cap and his to other officers were inside. They had managed to distract the hostage taker long enough to get the girl out. For a moment Cap was staring down the barrel of the Magnum, and then, seeing hesitation in the mans eyes, he kicked the gun from his hand and moved in to place cuffs on him. As he was moving in, the man pulled a switchblade and got one swipe in before he was taken down by snipers. The cut went from above his eyebrow down to his cheek below his eye. Had it been any deeper, Cap would be blind in his right eye.
The sound of a phone ringing jarred Cap out of his flashback. He walked to the phone.
     "Hello?" he answered.
"Cap, we need you to come in as soon as possible, there's been a murder."
"I'm on my way," he said and hung up the phone.

YAY. I like it. I think that there could be a few edits made that would pull the reader in a bit more, but once I started reading about the flashback and then the phone call I was really dragged in. Good Job, can't wait for more.
